FINAL REFLECTION

Experience

I thoroughly enjoyed Digital Photography & Imaging this semester. The lectures that Mr Martin and Mr Fauzi gave in the semester were extremely educational and helpful in their students' growth in design. They showed no hesitation when their students are in need of assistance in the given assignments and projects to which I'm very grateful for. I also favour the fact that there is a balance in the learning outcomes between the two lectures; Mr Martin's classes and projects put the focus on testing the students' technical abilities while Mr Fauzi's classes and projects aim to target the students' ideas and concepts when coming up with designs on Photoshop.

Observation

The exercises and projects themselves were exceptionally challenging and I always find myself trying to tackle more than just technical obstacles. Especially in the Self-Titled and Surrealistic Parallax projects, I find these to be among the harder projects in the semester to complete just because of how much thought needs to be put into the details of the finished design. The cyborg project was really technically challenging and I can confidently say that it's the hardest thing I've done on Photoshop so far. But all in all, with every single class, I'm striving to become better with the help of the lecturers' understanding and kind attitude.

Findings

At the end of the semester, I think the biggest key take-away from this module is that it has helped me realise how important it is to pursue a style that I personally favour. In every single project, the one thing that I struggled the most is coming up with a design that I can be proud of, which lead me down a rabbit hole of creating more and more useless designs. It was at a point when I was designing my arm for the Cyborg project that I realise I don't have to follow the style everyone else was going for and I could go with what I'm comfortable with. Individuality is truly important for contemporary artist and designers to develop so the world doesn't exhaust itself of unique ways life can be interpreted. This module has truly helped me develop my own individuality in my design style and I'm glad to have gone through these 14 weeks with Mr Martin and Mr Fauzi. I forever appreciate the guidance they provided for their students throughout the time I've known them.
