FINAL REFLECTION

Experience

Since I was late to enter the semester, Illustration and Visual Narrative was the first class that I ever attended in this semester. I was really nervous and was pretty much alone that day so I didn't know what to expect from Taylor's University. Both Ms Anis' and Mr Faizal's calming voice and chill persona helped calm me down and I tell you, that was probably one of the reasons why they are one of my favourite lectures in this semester. Both of them carried the same enthusiastic energy throughout the semester and never failed to provide that sense of stability in all of the right ways. I especially like how solid each and every one of their classes felt; they had a centralised software, a fair grading system, provided external materials that we can study in our own time, fast replies to texts, and I have to say that I enjoyed Ms Anis' lectures the most out of everything else in this entire semester. The topics and concepts that she discusses are extremely interesting and I always find myself diving deeper and deeper into various google searches and youtube videos to expand my understanding of the topics.

Observation

The exercises and projects in this module really helped me improve my digital art skills and understanding of visual storytelling. The number of exercises and projects in this module wasn't as much as the other modules (which I am very grateful for), but every single one of them targets very specific parts of my expertise that forces me to do extensive practise and research in order to get better. In my opinion, this is a very good example of having quality and effective exercises instead of relying on the number of exercises for the students' development, so bravo to whoever constructed the learning objectives of this module.

Findings

If I were to compare my first ever digital sketch that I've ever made with what I'm capable of doing now, I would be really surprised. Somehow, this semester has made my progress in digital art improve significantly. What's more surprising is that the lectures never really influence my art style at all, instead what they focus in class are important concepts and ideas that can be universally applied to all artists. I appreciate having this class the most because the lecturers never made me feel like I'm constraint to one single visual art style. This module has more creative freedom, has given me the chance to explore myself more, and given me enough confidence to call myself a visual artist. Though admittedly Design Principles also helped with this a lot, I want to credit Ms Anis and Mr Faizal for being the awesome people that they are throughout these 14 weeks.
