TASK 2 | KEY ARTWORK & COLLATERAL

    Task 2A | Key Artwork

For the first part of the project, we're tasked to create a key artwork, which is the visual motif that defines the entire marketing look and feel, including images, fonts, and palette. From the given choices of events, I've chosen Urbanscapes as my event for this project.

Urbanscapes is a local creative arts festival that has been running for the past 17 years. Their aim has always been to bring together Malaysian creative communities from the fields of music, the arts, design, film and other creative disciplines. The term urbanscapes is an abbreviation for Urban Landscapes, which I will be utilising as my main creative direction for this project.

    Task 2B | Collateral

For the second part of this project, we're tasked to implement and expand our key artworks into four different collaterals, namely a poster, an animated invite, and two extra collateral of our choice— which I've chosen as tickets and staff cards.

FEEDBACKS

Week 6

Specific Feedback
Although the idea of brutalism is there, it's still in a very rudimentary stage and has to be developed more to reflect the event. The title URBN might be unfitting because of the missing letter, it could cause trouble for those interested to search the event on google. The elements going past the artboard seems unnecessary

General Feedback.
Key artwork should not be a poster. Key artwork should be versatile enough to be used as an asset throughout the different designs in the event. Always experiment in greyscale first before adding colour

Week 7

Specific Feedback
Out of the different experimentations, two of the designs stood out best (number 6 & number 8). The 3D Urban design depends too much on the background for it to be a standalone key artwork. The design concept of the "urbanscapes" idea is really interesting and attractive, however, the colours themselves aren't too attractive and doesn't seem like it has a proper direction. Must be revised and finalised. The placement of "scapes" in the design mentioned is out of place and too small. The 3D Urban design has a niche look to it and it reflects the word well, according to some peers.

General Feedback 1
We must be aware of contrast, balance, and harmony when designing our key artwork. Key artwork is not a poster!

Week 8

Specific Feedback
First impression, the colours are really nice, it complements the poster and the elements well. The visual balance was well done, particularly the placement of the Date at the top right corner. However, there is too little information on the poster, and I might have to figure out different placements of the body text to make sure it looks interesting and stimulating.

General Feedback
Colours and non-objective elements must only serve the purpose of complimenting the poster, not to be put as main subjects. The Key Artwork must be the central visual element (i.e. "command the stage"), if it doesn't, then it loses its quality as the key artwork of the event.

Week 10

Specific Feedback
No feedback needed, the work done was satisfactory.

General Feedback
Be more creative! Don't just slap your key artwork onto paper and call it a day.
